The Associaton has an agreement with a landowner to a Heather Moor site at Harperstone Dyke, Sherrifmuir. Please respect the Landowner’s property and follow The Countryside Code.
A register of the colonies that are being taken to the heather has also to be kept. If you wish to take a colony (or more) you must first request a colony number which should be requested prior to taking your bees to the site. A number will be allocated for each colony and this number must be displayed prominently on the hive in some form. The registration number can be obtained by emailing [email protected].
As in past years, the site has been prepared with a path strimmed and the marker posts are in place. Placing of colonies must comply with the Landlord’s requests.
Park off the road and you will see the strimmed path in front of you.
Please remember that the ground is rough and moving a colony really a two person job. A hive carrier or a wide bodied wheel barrow would be a good method of moving the colonies to our allotted area. Hives should be carefully secured as deer and sheep could utilise the newly delivered scratching posts! The grey post is the 20mtr halfway post. The area for the colonies is 40mts from the roadside where there is a white post. Colonies MUST be on the downward side of the white marker post where the larger strimmed area begins. This is on the instruction of the Farm Manager and they must NOT be placed on the upper side of the white post. Members who leave their colonies in the wrong position will be asked to move them.
Rent: The standard rent of one properly labelled jar of honey (not shop bought!) is required (one pound per colony) and should be made available within thirty days of the colonies being removed. The jars should be delivered to the apiary on a Sunday between 12.00 – 13.00 by the end of September when they will be delivered to the Iandowner.

Follow this single track road up the hill to the T junction and turn left at the top of the hill. Travel a further 0.5 mile and you will see a new gate on the right hand side where trees have been planted. The DSBA site is opposite this gate on your left just after the stone dyke.
